Wristlet Case for eReaders

Did I mention that I got a new Kindle Fire for Christmas?  My incredibly observant husband actually heard my not-so-subtle hints.  Oh, I already have a Kindle 2 but the comparison between them is like that  of a 1950′s black and white TV and an internet connected flatscreen!

Anyway, my Kindle love inspired me to desire protection,  and even with the older model,  Kindle Second Generation,  I almost always slid it into a case when not using it. But now I also want a  way to carry around the charger and earbuds when I travel.   Most Kindle cases are snug enough to contain a specific device and nothing more.

My last post included a photo of a felt case with a strip-pieced pocket.  It was serviceable, but not exactly what I wanted.  My next try, shown below, was just OK also, but not unique enough.

A perfectly good case for Kindle protection.

After playing around with my sketches, I came up with two designs using fabric that I had just purchased.  I liked these  enough to construct and list in my Etsy shop.

These two cases will hold just about any eReader.    My Kindle Fire or Kindle 2 fit with the power cord and earbuds.

Let me know what you think!  Did I miss something that you absolutely must have in a case?

If you haven’t heard about it yet, you will  It’s the wildly popular social networking pinboard for your dreams, is how I look at it.  How often have you wandered into a blog, shop or site, see something you want to come back to, copy, share, save for later, then bookmark to keep it— and promptly forget it forever, having either no memory of the item or where you saw it?

Pinterest has become my new obsession and personal assistant of all I treasure so I can organize my finds into categories and keep images of those items.

When you get to pinterest.com, click on an image and you are taken to its source or to another Pinterest member who may have a source, with a source, with a source! (But at least you can find that source if it matters to you!)  You can choose to follow people with categories you admire and they can follow you.  Pinterest sends you an email updating you on who is following you, adding your pins or likes with links to their collections.  Oh What Fun!

Pinterest will prompt you to add the Pin It button at the top of your screen.  Want to save, categorize and comment on your finds?  Just click the Pin It button, hover over the image, click the PIn It which appears.  A screen will open for you to add your info, click Pin It and voila!, it’s added.

A Happy Belated New Year to all and I don’t feel bad about it being late.  Josie, a young at heart friend at the gym (who must be around 80 years old) told me that it’s OK to say Happy New Year all month long since you don’t see everyone you know right away.

I’ve been busy this week downloading books and reading on my new Kindle Fire, books about blogging and organizational business techniques.  Yes, I’m still working on pinning down my new year’s resolutions (I think I have this whole month!) .  Of course, I’m leaving out my personal improvement goals either for another time or, maybe not at all.

So far, this is what I’ve come up with:

  1. Work on learning all I can about WordPress so I can get a better functioning and better looking blog.
  2. Design a better technology tote (my Kindle Fire again!).
  3. Sew more bags for my Etsy shop.
  4. Photograph all of my projects.
  5. Stop wasting time!!!!!
  6. Become more proficient at using social media for marketing and sharing.
  7. Offer a tutorial on my blog.
  8. Take an improvisational quilting class and a mixed media class.
  9. Continue my Fabric Embellishment project.
  10. Practice using the new sewing machine feet I just ordered.
  11. And STOP WASTING TIME!!!

Now these are all within my ability to achieve (except maybe the wasting time one) and I’ve already taken some steps towards them.  But I have now committed to them in print so I’ll need to report back on them, let’s say in April,, to keep things real.  I’m even going to put the date in my planner right now!
Did you make any resolutions you’d like to share?

It’s Cyber Monday!

For today only I am running a 20% off Cyber Monday sale.  Yes, that will more than take care of any shipping costs.  Here is a new listing that I really want to keep for myself, but I say that about all of my bags in my shop since I won’t list anything that I don’t love!

Tote Handbag in winter fabrics

Winter fabrics of wool and ultrasuede fashioned into a tote handbag that is perfect for shopping and errands. Convenient, roomy and organized, this bag is small enough to be called a handbag, but large enough to carry your essentials and a few small purchases. No digging in the bottom for your ringing cell phone because it’s easily retrieved from the outside front pocket. Inside, there is a roomy divided pocket made from a solid purple sateen, in contrast to the beautiful cotton print lining. It has a magnetic snap and a decorative tab with silver ring to close the bag. This bag makes a wonderful gift for yourself or someone special!

Holiday Table Runner

November has always been “the brown month” to me.  I wanted a Thanksgiving table runner that would be cheerful and take me right through the holidays.  My solution was to use some IKEA fabric to make a flexible and adaptable decorative linen that would serve my needs throughout the entire season.

Rather than make a reversible runner I decided (as I constructed it) that I would make it layered.  On Thanksgiving I’ll use the red and white runner on the white tablecloth.  The red flowers added to the usual yellow, orange and brown will tie it all together.

The first layer

Santas on top!

A tradition in our home, since my children were small, was that after Thanksgiving dinner we would get out some of our Christmas decorations and get in the spirit.  Well, this year my kids will not be home, but rather than forgo this tradition, I will simply whip out the second runner and place it atop the first and voila!, the Christmas season will have begun!

Thinking ahead, I could use the bottom solid  runner and make a Valentine’s Day layer to celebrate this day!  Oh, I do love using something I made more than once a year!

As an alternative use, the Santa runner could be used as a wall hanging.  I would just add some draped ribbon or small tree ornaments from the bottom.  Multi-uses – I love it!

I’m On A Blog – Not Mine!

This one is mine!

Enchanted Jewels blogger, Barbara Solomon, interviewed me last week and it is posted today!  I hope you will check out her interviews with various types of artists, as she has chosen to showcase very different types of products.  I am very excited about her interest and sharing on her blog.  She has given me much inspiration and motivation to offer the same opportunity to other artists also. She has a shop on Etsy, Designing Parrot Jewel, where she offers her own jewelry designs.  Be sure to check out her beautiful creations!

I just love to include pictures with my posts so here is one.  I wanted to put it at the end, but now I don’t know how to move it!  Help if you know how!
